Task Force to the Rescue

TASK FORCE TO THE RESCUE !!!
IT WAS THAT TIME OF YEAR WHEN BAT WAS PUT TO BALL AND THE CRICKET SEASON FOR LODSWORTH WAS UNDERWAY, HOWEVER WITH MILD CONDITIONS AND GRASS GROWING BILLYO ALONG WITH NO TEA LADYS IN SIGHT IT LOOKED AT 1 POINT THAT THE 1ST HOME GAME OF THE SEASON WASNT GOING TO HAPPEN.
THATS WHEN NEW SKIPPER FOR THE DAY ROB (POPEYE)COLLINS RALLIED HIS MERRY MEN AND GOT A GAME UNDERWAY ON THE SUNDAY.  WITH HELP FROM ALL THAT CUT THE STRIP, MOWED THE OUTFIELD, DID THE BEST TEA THAT WAS MADE FOR ABOUT 10 TEAMS AND NOT 2 WE EVENTUALLY STARTED AT 240PM AFTER ROB HAD LOST THE TOSS.  PUTTING LODDY IN ON A PITCH THAT OFFERED VARIABLE BOUNCE, MOVEMENT IN THE AIR AND AN OUTFIELD THAT YOU COULD GET LOST IN NR THE PLAYGROUND….  MSSERS HALL AND RIX OPENED THE INNINGS JUST LIKE 2 CATS. BOTH HAD ABOUT 9 LIVES WITH DROPPED CATCHES, CLOSE RUN-OUTS AND SOME DUBIOUS CALLING PUT ON 37 FOR THE 1ST WKT UNTILL AL SKIED A CHANCE TO MID ON WHO GOBBLED IT UP NICELY.  MATT THEN GOT DONE CUTTING A BALL OFF HIS STUMPS AND GOT BOWLED FOR A DASHING 26 AND IT WAS ONLY WHEN BIG ED MARLAND CAME TO THE CREASE THAT IT LOOKED THAT HE COULD PLAY SOME PROPER CRICKET SHOTS!!!   JAMES GOT DONE BY A FULL TOSS, FERGUS GAVE 3 CHANCES UNTILL WAS SNAFFLED UP FOR 12 AND NEW BOY HILL WITH CLIFFORD GOT CAUGHT ON THE 3RD ATTEMPT JUGGLING THE BALL.
LODDY THEN WERE 83-7 LOOKING AT LESS THAN 100 BUT THEN BUDD AND LONG REBUILT THE TOTAL AND PUT ON ANOTHER 30 RUNS UNTILL CHRISTIAN WAS PLUM LBW. CAPT COLLINS THEN HELPED LONG TO PUT ON ANOTHER 20 RUNS UNTILL LONG GOT DONE WITH A STRAIGHT ONE AND THEN LONG SNR GOT CAUGHT FOR A QUACK QUACK.  LODDY POSTING A RESPECTABLE 128 ALL OUT IN 36 OVERS BOWLED.
MARLAND 27    LONG 27     HALL 26       FERGUS  12    BUDD  10.
WITH IT NOT QUITE 5 WE STOPPED FOR AN EARLY TEA/FEAST/HUGE HELP YOURSELF AS THE PLAYERS HAD PROVIDED ALL THE GOODIES TODAY.   JIM WITH HIS SLIMLINE WAISTLINE LOOKED WELL HAPPY AS HE COULD HELP HIMSELF TO ALL ON DISPLAY.  IT WONT BE LIKE THAT FOR LONG THEN IF WE HAVE TEAS LIKE THIS MOST WEEKS…..LOL…
NOW IT WAS WESTBOURNES TURN TO BAT AND WITH THE HOME SIDE A BIT SHORT ON BOWLERS IT WAS UP TO THE USUAL SUSPECTS IN HALL  AND LONG TO OPEN. WITH MATT HAVING A BAD HAND AND LONGS BACK UP THE SWANNY/ REALLY BAD/GOING INTO SPASM !!!  THE BATSMEN LOOKED QUITE SECURE AS THE LODDY ATTACK COULDN’T   REALLY FIND MUCH PENETRATION WITH BALL.  THEY PUT ON 50 FOR THE 1ST WICKET UNTILL LONG GOT THE OPENER BOWLED AND THEN LONG SNR GOT IN THE ACT WITH A QUICK PIECE OF FIELDING AND RUN OUT THE OTHER OPENER.  COLLINS SET SOME GOOD FIELD PLACEMENTS THAT KEPT THE BATSMEN ON THEIR TOES AND THE SCORING WAS KEPT AT A SLOW RATE- ESP AS HICKEY WAS KEEPING IT TIGHT WITH HIS SLOW SPINNERS. THE GAME LOOKED LIKE GOING THE VISITORS WAY AT 95-3 UNTILL MATT TOOK A GREAT CATCH IN THE DEEP TO GET RID OF THE DANGEROUS WELLER (PETERSFIELD 1XI) AND JAMIE HILL ON DEBUT GOT A WICKET. 100-5 AND WITH NOT ALOT OF BATTING TO COME THE TURNING POINT CAME AS A SKIED SHOT BY WESTBOURNES SKIPPER LANDED YARDS AWAY FROM 3 LODDY PLAYERS WHO NOONE SHOUTED MINE.  IF TAKEN THEN MAYBE LODSWORTH COULD OF SEEN A WIN BUT WITH SOME CAREFUL BATTING THEY MANAGED TO MANOEUVRE THE BALL SO THAT THEY EVENTUALLY WON WITH ONLY 5 BALLS TO SPARE AT 745PM….
WE BOWLED A TOTAL OF 42 OVERS— 6 MORE THAN THEM SO …..!!!!
A GOOD GAME PLAYED IN GREAT SPIRITS OVERALL.
