Match report vs Ebernoe Sunday 28th April 2019
4 wides and a robbery
Like day comes night, Ying and yang,  bangers and mash-  always something will happen when the first game of Lodsworth cricket season starts.  At the helm was new skipper Olly King. With him, you get enthusiasm, a helping hand from JCK and an air of confusion and disorganisation….  that’s even before we started….
2 or 230 start, who has the match ball, who can bowl, batting order changed more often than the top 2 of Man City and Liverpool, who knows how to mark out 22 or 23 yards wicket, scorebook anywhere by any chance???
Anyway now down to the game…
After captain chaos king won the toss, loddy elected to bowl in a 35over max8overs per bowler format.
With one of our big guns out for the season(big in size not in muscle junaid) it was up to messers Hall and Long to open up with the new cherry. Matt who isn’t an opening bowler but the way he bowled is more a 4th change bowled a bit full and didn’t really cause any problems. However Long who as per usual came up the hill looked quite dangerous and got 3 quick wickets to leave ebernoe in trouble at 31-3. Big lad GB then was given the ball and found a bit of zip and got rewarded with a super catch by keeper Mike. Loddy sensed a big opportunity to capitalise. Was this a smash and grab?
Well talking of that, in the 18years of playing for loddy we have never had a robbery at the rec.
Someone driving a spearmint rhino fiat 500 car turned up, parked out of sight behind the hall and then proceeded to raid a dirty battered rusty old dented van in stealing a hammer and old petrol blower. After being seen by an opposition player who was threatened, they sped off with wheels spinning down the car park.WHAT u say. Well this is true, you couldnt make it up as the vehicle was yes you guessed it captain chaos himself. Would you believe it!!
A break in play of 20mins, frantic searching questions etc and the longest over in history, the cricket then got back out to get on with the game. Loddy with king off the field and Long senior immobile (9men for rest of the game) let the game slip a bit and Ebernoe went from 50-5 to 112-5 until GB came back for a 2nd spell and got a few more victims, backed up with Long who chipped in with another lovely ball that the batsmen hit wicket to leave the away side finishing on 144-9 off 35overs.
GB 8-1-22-5
LONG 8-1-14-4
After a superb tea which could feed the 5000, loddy went out with Hall and Rix to get off to a good start.
Rix looked good but failed to deliver and only made 7, Hall made a cameo quickfire 22 until getting bowled and then when you need a skippers knock most you get Olly. With his mind on other things he got out plum LBW for nought,a big 0.
Loddy were 40-3,  been here before and it could well be 50-8 but GB and big Dave green had other ideas…..
With bad balls being punished and fielders dropped catches that went for 4!!(not) the home side looked set to achieve a famous unlikely opening victory. Mike came in after GB and showed flashes of power to get the total up to 120-4 until getting bowled wanted to smash another boundary.
Long then came to the crease with DVG and with 25 needed, they both played sensibiliy putting the bad ball away and ended up winning the game with 9 balls left. Note thou that DVG played an anchor role and Dave’s knock was the best he has played for Loddy.     145-5 off 33.3overs.   LODDY WIN BY 5 WICKETS.
GB 22
A quick beer or 2 down the pub to chat about the game or crime, it was decided that GB was MOM.
However acclaim goes to Dave for a lovely steady knock and Mike for 3 great catches.
Kirdford next week, lets hope Loddy gets 2 outa 2.  Well done Chaos King- nice win skipper!!!!
Long Shakespeare’s scribe……
